Mount Sacred Heart School Reviews

I completely disagree with the last post. If you take the time to speak with the principal and asst principal you would learn that the scores of these students are beyond expectations. The middle school simply rocks!!!! My oldest child is enrolled in AP classes in high school and is in the top 3% of his class. From academics to athletics, fine arts to religion, MSH has the most to offer. The community of parents and teachers is what continues to impress me. You need to visit this school.

I would not recommend Mount Sacred Heart for a wide variety of reasons. The ratios are horrible for both their Montessori program as well as their regular Pre-K and Kinder program. They are so behind the curve on what really works for children in Pre-K and Kinder age, they believe in overwhelming their minds and not offering true kinder age appropriate learning techniques for true learning. They should invest time and learn about the real Kindergarten methods like those of Frederick Froebel (founder of kindergarten) and maybe go to the library at UIW and go to the Joe Frost collection and see children at this age learn through nurturing and play not forced academics. Frankly, the school and the principle need to reevaluate theses programs. The teachers seem to be doing their best overall. My child now attends a school with more progressive ideas.

I love this school. It's our second year here and immediately we felt 'at home.' Our children are happy and are learning well beyond our expectations. To me, this school has the perfect balance of tradition and progress...a vibrant history and a vision for the future. Glad we found this school for our children!!!

I have two daughters that current attend the school and I can't speak highly enough about the teacher's and the new principle. They are always very attentive to our concerns regarding our children's education.

Wow! This school is very behind in their teaching styles. My two children went there for 4 years and when they transfered to AHISD they were very behind in Math. After a semester at their new school, my oldest jumped to the top of her 5th grade class. I had many issues with the faculty but most importantly, were the rudeness of some of the teachers. The great ones do not stay very long, are stressed out, and underpaid.

Enough cannot be said for Mount's theater program. Mount is the only middle school in San Antonio that is performing well known musicals such as, Oklahoma, Aladin, and The Music Man. Wow, I never would have thought that my son would be performing dance numbers and singing on stage to Broadway music numbers. The self-esteem, confidence, and talent brought out by the theater instructor is priceless. Everyone gets to participate and no one leaves the production without feeling they made a significant contribution. Thank you Mount for this program!!

This school is overall good. The teachers are the only thing I have a problem with. They are not as experianced as they should be. They are also a very disorganized. They are the only thing I have a problem with. The parents are very friendly and nice. They are always there to welcome and support you.

I'm so blessed to have found this wonderful school. The closeness of the community, the spirituality, and the academics are superb! From the Montessori thru the middle school, I continue to be impressed with all the parents, teachers and staff who share the common goal - each child's potential! My children have been at Mount since Montessori...when they go to summer academic camps, etc, the teachers from the other schools always comment on their advanced skills and grace/courtesy. I give the credit to Mount!

Their Montessori program is good. Unlike the rest of these reviews I disagree about the quality of the education. There are many parents who would agree that the teachers in the school are discriminitory, unprofessional and disorganized. Many use old school techniques and the ones with ideas are pushed out. As a parent I had terrible experiences with the teachers and their treatment of my children. Parents in this school form a click, many who are alumni. They get special treatment by the faculty and staff, to the highest level. Their complaints and belly aching comes first. I would not recommend this school at all!

From fundraisers to school events to daily classes, MSH is organized, efficient and does it all with a smile. Everyone on staff is very helpful and welcoming. I'm so happy to have found this little school and the cost of tuition is just the icing on the cake!

MSH has a true Montessori program for children 21/2 until 1st grade. The teachers and staff have been remarkable in dealing with my son who is tall for his age(is 3 looks 5-6) vs. his emotional state, a toddler. The older students are paired with younger ing the school to help them understand that the little ones look to them for guidance. We love the fact that the children attend mass weekly and the school activities are numerous. Parents are highly involved and it shows in the character of the children. What originally sold us on MSH was the yearly fall carnival where the children dress up in costumes and the 7th and 8th grade girls were dressed up in costumes such as cheerleaders and Dorothy. There's an innocence in the children that you don't see very often in this day and age, the children were allowed to be children.

Quality of academic programs is very good. I would highly recommend. Great experience. Many programs to sign up your child for. There are several academic programs for all levels. Piano, Spanish, French, music, art, dance, sports for all levels. Parent involement is very high. Parents volunteer for all activites and events. Great parent support group.

We spent 10 great years associated with this school. The families and kids were wonderful to be around. Teachers are very good and dedicated. The admin staff is helpful and motivated toward quality. The school has great tradition especially for boys. Test scores are consistently high. The tuition is a steal compared to other area private schools. Some classes still taught by nuns. The building may be old but the education and friendships the kids get will last forever.
