| Description: |
"SISTAH 4" is the painted sistah. Chosen as one of 125 works of art out of 566 entries it was a part of the 30th ART MAUI 2008 EXHIBITION. It is the fourth in a series of seven depicting the relationship of genetics in which Kenneth sculpted the eyes and mouth in clay and then cast these pieces in acrylic. These body parts were then attached to the canvas with each "sistah" having a variation in the positioning of these identical parts and thus making them all related and yet with color and varying hairstyles each becomes distinctive with their own personality. Each "sistah" the same and yet different as it is with all sisters.
The "sistah" slang is from the islands of Hawaii where bothers become “bruddahs” and sisters become “sistahs”. Kenneth has given a part of his life and soul to the islands from where he draws much of his artistic flow.
The "SISTAH SERIES" reflects the artists' love of painting and sculpture which he combines and incorporates his fluid art with a 3-dimensional canvas to be come the best of both worlds. |
